¤ the STRANGE in the FREE PRESS! We were given a ringing endorsement in the Free Press. Brian McCollum reviewed the new album and excellent things to say about us: "A liquid, languid mood dominates the album, but a tense current rides beneath these seven tracks to give the proceedings a visceral edge." SPEND LUNCH WITH THE STRANGE! the STRANGE will be playing downtown Detroit during the day this Wednesday as part of the Campus Martius Summer in the Park series. Come down and enjoy the summer sunshine with your favorite band. We'll be featuring EMILY ROGERS (of RIB and IRIS fame) and our old friend PETE MARTINEZ for two sets. We're working up some new material to start the next record in october - come out and get a sneak preview! ¤ CD RELEASE PARTY THIS FRIDAY! the STRANGE will be at the MAGIC BAG this Friday for our CD RELEASE PARTY. CLEAR GRAY and IRIS are on the bill, with special guest artists sitting in with us! EMILY ROGERS and PETE MARTINEZ will be back with us, and we'll feature the oustanding talent of JOVíA ARMSTRONG on percussion. Doors open at 8pm, cover is $7. Hosts Vince Cannova and Dave Kim have been extremely supportive of our music, playing songs on many of the shows over the last 2 months and are pushing to get our music into regular rotation throughout the day. ¤ NEW ALBUM OUT THIS SUMMER! The new album is progressing well, we should have it available to you, loyal friends, early this summer. We're staying very busy with preparing the new album, our friends JCHRISTOPHERHUGHES of St. Louis and JOHN SMEREK of good 'ol DETROIT have contributed to the wonderful sonic beauty that shall be our next album. Stay tuned for release dates, and purchasing info! Listen to music clips here! ¤ AWARDS ON GARAGEBAND.COM FOR "TEXAS" the first single, "TEXAS" has been getting play on MySpace and GarageBand.com. It was up on Garageband nary a week and won a slew of awards and will be featured as "Track of the Day" for Saturday, April 29. the single from our first album "WAITING FOR THE SUN" was also garnered with dozens of awards and was featured as "Track of the Day" last summer. NOT US! in February, we teamed up with Detroit impresario Anthony Ernest Garth (of White Stripes' "HOTEL YORBA" fame) to film a video for "TEXAS". ¤ the STRANGE will be appearing on the JUDY ADAMS program! Tune in to 101.9 FM WDET on Thursday, Spetember 8 to her show. WDET also streams their signal over the web, click here for the link. Judy is one of the most important figures for Detroit music, and is the program director for Michigan's best and most important radio station - WDET. We are thrilled and honored to be featured on her show. ¤ JAZZFEST was outstanding! Pete Martinez and Jovía Armstrong added their uncomparable talent to our show. We had many people come down after hearing us WDET earlier in the day. Judy Adams played us on her show. Stay tuned to WDET for more of the STRANGE! ¤ Another great session in St. Louis with J Christopher Hughes yielded 3 new tunes. Things are moving along great with our firends at Red Pill Records. Stay tuned for more on Red Pill and the STRANGE. ¤ We handled the house band duties for the Heineken StarQuest Jazzfest tryouts. We got to hear the best jazz bands Detroit has to offer, and were honored to share the stage (and our equipment) with such class acts. This year's Jazzfest has one of the strongest lineups in recent memory. In addition to the best Detroit acts, such luminaries as Dave Brubeck, Joe Zawinul, Joey DeFrancesco, and MMW are on the bill. ¤ the STRANGE is booked for the 26TH ANNUAL DETROIT INTERNATIONAL JAZZ FESTIVAL! the Detroit Festival is one of the last all-free jazz festivals in the world, and North America's largest. We will be playing on the Spirit of Detroit Stage at Woodward and Jefferson. We will be joined by Pete Martinez on organ and piano and Jovía Armstrong on percussion. These two are regular members of the STRANGE family, and vital to making it all sound so sweet. |

¤ Wow. It's turning out to be quite a summer. on 30 june at our twice monthly gig at fishbone's, none other than TREY ANASTASIO happened by. He sat in with us for 2 sets and played "driving my chord" and the award-winning "waiting for the sun". we did a few other tunes with him including "killing her softly" with courtney patrick doubling vocal duty with brent. we then jammed the night away with trey on "son of a preacher man". trey is an excellent guy, very appreciative and we really enjoyed jamming with him. apparently, he got routed to detroit en route to burlington, and had to stay at the airport hotel. he called a local friend of his whom had heard we were playing, and brought him down to greektown. trey said all night that is was "a bad night turned good!" indeeed it was. ¤ In addition to trey, we were joined by dave perample on B3 and piano, and jovía armstrong on percussion. they added a whole lot to our sound and we look forward to playing with them again. ¤ TASTEFEST itself was wonderful. fighting heavy winds, the STRANGE joined by jovía and dave with brett lucas (from thornetta davis' band) all played wonderfully and we pulled off a really great 90-minute set, including barn-busting versions of "gypsy caravan", "thirteen", "drift away", and of course closing with our epic "waiting for the sun". The crowd was outstanding, and many thanks to those folks who came out to hear us. |

¤ we had a fantastic time with J Christopher Hughes in st. louis. we were all on the same wavelength, and the tunes flowed like water from a mountain spring. he is definitely a Friend of the Strange, and we are working toward getting back down there to cut some more tracks this summer and fall. ¤ our tune "Waiting for the Sun" was selected as Track of the Day for 25 June 2005 by garageband.com! After winning several dozen awards on the site, it has made it to the third round of scoring. ¤ the strange will be on the New Center Council Jazz & Blues Stage presented by HOUR Detroit for the comerica tastefest! We'll get started up at 5:30, and go non-stop until 7pm. We're featuring Brett Lucas (of Thornetta Davis fame) on guitar, Dave Perample on Hammond B3 and piano and the ever charming Courtney Patrick on vocals. come on down to the stage for some great new sounds and flavors from your favorite band. |

¤ the Strange has landed a steady gig at fishbone's rhythm kitchen in downtown detroit. look for us there every other thursday or so throughout the summer. check the gigs page for details. ¤ J Christopher Hughes, the legendary st louis producer/engineer, has invited us down to st. louis for a recording session. the strange will be down there during memorial day weekend with a special guest guitarist cutting some of our newest material with christopher. everyone's stoked and it should be a great weekend of music and mayhem. |
